Course Outline:
Drawing – Learn the Basics of Drawing using the 5 Fundamentals of Lines/Shapes. Using these basics, students perform warm up exercises to imitate pre-existing line drawings (at Level 2). Using the principles of shape and line, children create a series of thumbnail drawings from still life and photo references using graphite and ink. Composition and cropping is discussed at this time, and a thumbnail is chosen to be used as a reference for a larger, more formal approach to a drawing using the basics of shading.
Painting – Learn the Basics of materials (brushes and acrylic paints), using paper to practice the effects of different types of brushes. Based on one of the thumbnail renderings done during drawing, students will choose one to interpret in paint on canvas.
