Artist in Residence Program at Georgian Bay Islands National Park of Canada, Beausoleil Island · Mar 22, 05:37 pm
Stu and I are pleased and honoured to announce that we have been selected to participate in the first annual Artist in Residency Program held at Beausoleil Island of the amazing Georgian Bay Islands National Park of Canada. Only 6 artists were selected out of 32 applicants.
Artists will be staying in one of their new rustic cabins, newly built in 2011 for a week to study the region for a week, and to create a body of work based on their studies. While there, we will hold a Meet and Greet on the Saturday of September 8th in the Visitor Centre located at Cedar Springs.
We are invited to hold workshops in situ, (TBA). Otherwise, we are so excited to spend the week emmersed on the Islands hiking, kayaking and sketching all around the Park to inspire a body of work to promote and educate everyone about this beautiful region we are so fortuneate to call our home.

6 hour Art Class for young students during March Break with Teacher, Carol Currie · Mar 15, 03:10 pm
What a great day with such young talent! We did 3 hours of drawing to include some blind drawing of the figure, and a study of shadows and light with a boulder. After lunch, we spent 3 hours on abstract or realism paintings (by choice of the student) with acrylic paints on canvas of a landscape reference. It was a lot of fun, and thank you all for participating!

AGES 8-11 Mondays

MARLENE BULAS Art Opening .. Musical Performance with EMILY KING & BRENT ROBITAILLE .. Art Demonstration with MARLENE BULAS at CLAUSTRO Mar 9-11, 2012 · Mar 12, 05:08 pm
What a great weekend full of events for the Art Exhibition of MARLENE BULAS at CLAUSTRO Studios & Gallery last weekend, March 9-11, 2012.
We had a great Art Reception on Friday evening March 9, 6-9pm. Thank you everyone for attending!
Then on Saturday March 10, from 2-3pm, CLAUSTRO welcomed 15 year old, singer/songwriter EMILY KING to the gallery, accompanied by her guitar teacher, the amazing musician, BRENT ROBITAILLE. The event was well attended! With a special appearance by Mayor, Gord McKay and Town Councillor, Pat File, along with SNAP newspaper to take photos of the performance … Thank you all for your support! The performance was tremendous … featuring Emily’s original hit song, “Hit and Miss” (make no mistake, it was no miss). Thank you Emily and Brent!
And to close the Art Exhibition, on Sunday March 11, from 2-3pm, MARLENE BULAS provided an interactive Art Demonstration/class to include 6 participants, where novice students learned how to create 2 paintings in less than an hour. Artist, Marlene’s message to students was that anyone can paint and have fun doing it! And she was certainly right! When the class came to an end, there were 12 beautiful paintings pinned up around the gallery, accomplished by the students … and it WAS a lot of fun! Thank you Marlene!

What a tremendous turnout for the CLAUSTRO ART OPENING held this Friday March 2nd, featuring the “Spirits of Killarney” Sculpted Painting! Thank you all for coming to our event. Then on Saturday March 3, we featured a poetry and prose reading by Local, Published Poet, ROGER BELL. What a great day, despite some pretty major flurry activity.
Also, we are happy to announce that at Roger Bell’s intermission, Artistic Director & Dancer of Simcoe Contemporary Dance Company, Sarah Lochhead, came with Dancer, Jessica Ransom, to view our space to book a date of April 21 to perform. Despite pretty much our one and only biggest snow storm of the year that arrived THE DAY of our OPENING RECEPTION, we had a great local turnout for the unveiling of our Sculpted Painting entitled, Spirits of Killarney. Thank you to everyone who made it out on this snowy night.
As the evening came to a close, we entertained a private party for the clients who commissioned this piece to celebrate its completion. A night to remember!
As a result of many requests from out of towners who couldn’t weather the storm, we are holding a ‘re-do’ opening this coming weekend of March 2-4th.
