Sculpted Painting Installation a huge success! OUR TALLEST and HEAVIEST! · Jul 15, 05:26 pm
This installation was no easy task … but a breeze for Stu the magician! Seriously, I could not have considered even transporting this piece to our client’s home, let alone hanging it on their wall.
Why? This sculpted painting was our tallest at 107 inches, that’s pretty much 9 feet tall. PLUS, the piece weighed in at an even 80 pounds .. not so easy to maneuvre to say the least.
How does one hang an 80 pound sculpted painting to ensure it doesn’t fall ??? Aside from a very good bracketing system secured to the back of the painting, the wall should be prepared properly as well … nope … I couldn’t contemplate it. (I just make things look pretty – haha)
But Stu did a tremendous job !!!!!!!! From creating a crate for our 8 foot truck to transport the piece safely … to engineering oak braces secured to the back of the painting … to installing the mirrored oak brackets on the client’s wall.
I think it took nearly an hour just to unload all the tools and ladders (and sculpted painting of course) from the truck before even starting the math to install the oak hanging brackets onto the wall.
Stu carefully measured and calculated to install the 5 oak braces on the client’s wall … he found drywall, lathe and plaster, and wood beams throughout the process, and nearly 6 hours later, came the REAL TEST.
… the test AND task of lifting the 80 pound sculpted painting onto the installed bracing. Would it fit? Would they hold? MAJOR DRUM ROLL!
And I couldn’t believe it (well yes I can, because Stu is that awesome!) … the piece fit PERFECTLY and held firmly as if this piece had been there for years!
Champagne was opened to celebrate this glorious occasion!
Cheers to the clients and to Stu! (and Cheers to me too!)

Isla Holbox, Mexico Carribean - PAINTING OF THE MONTH · Jun 20, 04:46 pm
Isla Holbox is a beautiful little Island in Mexico – a special place for my sister Cathy and her fiance, Dennis … so while they were there last year, she took this photo – amazed at how this tree just sprouted from the sand – and she envisioned one of my paintings.
So upon their return, they commissioned this piece. Big supporters of our work, I think this is piece number what, 10? It’s amazing to have family support.
I have to admit, it was a bit tricky and gave me some challenges but I love it and hope to see this magical place in person!
Thanks Cathy and Dennis!!!!!!

BALM BEACH, GEORGIAN BAY!!! · Jun 7, 03:52 pm
Welcome to BEAUTIFUL Balm Beach!
What a beautiful place we live! Truly inspirational for us artists!
Without a doubt, a few of these photos will become amazing Sculpted Paintings.
What a tremendous day … the air was just cool enough to comfortably cuddle, but warm enough to feel summer coming soon …
After a productive week of painting and sculpting, Stu and I decided to take a short Sunday drive to walk the beach for some of that fresh calming air that all beach breezes provide.
Ahh…

Stu at THE SURF, Balm Beach, June 2011 ... nice hat!

Stu strolling down the beach - you would think it was a cold May day with all the clothes he has on - but the wind was kind of brisk for June.
Ah the lazy days of nearing summer! Stu taking a break at Balm Beach. Lucky to live here! Happy to be alive!

Love this shot - like stepping stones to the water ... such varying geology! Pink Granite to Black Quartz ...
Another amazing erratic of Balm Beach! Beautiful Pink Striation running through the black rock!

Erratic of Balm Beach 3 - again, a delicate white vein appearing to be inked in to the black rock.
Another shot of Stu - yep, nearly a half an hour later, and while I was walking and taking photos, he was still enjoying his siesta! A much needed break after a long run of creating this week.

Dapper Dan - i mean Stu - finally awoken from the 'Resting Rock' and ready to rock and stroll down Balm Beach. Looking Good!
THE resting rock, Balm Beach.
I know - it's such a typical photo - but I couldn't help myself as it was completely unintentional and I have never seen such perfect footprints! Yes, that's Stu.
Fences of Balm Beach (the nice kind)! Looks so much like what I envision PEI to be.

Circle of Honour Philanthropist Awards Dinner, Huronia Community Foundation, Midland ON, 2011 · Jun 6, 06:13 pm
A few months ago we were approached by the Huronia Community Foundation to make a donation for the Circle of Honour Philanthropist Awards Dinner which took place this past Saturday June 4th, 2011.
At that time, we chose to donate a small painting and gift certificate towards an original painting, each valued at $450.00 for their silent auction.
We were also asked to consider dressing the hall with a few of our paintings.
It was a great evening, with well over 180 people in attendance, including Gord MacKay, Midland Mayor, Gerry Marshall, Penetanguishene Mayor, Garfield Dunlop, MPP, and Bruce Stanton, MP … along with the many contributors, sponsors and volunteer committee members that made this evening possible.
The Hall looked fantastic with the addition of the art, which brought attention to their Silent Auction tables, which raised money for the Foundation.
Congratulations to all the award winners!
