Painting of the Month - April 2010 · Apr 29, 11:32 am

Nearly completed, this is the Painting of the Month for April. The photos below show a work in progress, a closeup of details, then the ‘nearly’ finished piece.

The Rockface is complete. The clients will be in to review the piece on Saturday to discuss the addition of a tree element. The original intent of the composition allowed for a pine to be placed on the third panel at the top of the rock .. small as if coming from the land beyond and behind the rockface. But I have a few other new ideas as well.

PAINTING OF THE MONTH - March 2010 · Mar 22, 01:29 pm

This painting is the largest single panel commission to date, at 40” x 80”. The client wanted a tall, rugged cliffface with high contrasting shadows to remind her of Ontario North. The piece was created for their condo in downtown Toronto, noting the 16 foot ceilings and expansive windows.

Paintings of the month - FEBRUARY 2010 · Feb 28, 02:32 pm

The first piece, “Long View” is a nice simple, medium sized triptych, commissioned by a referred client for her husband’s 50th birthday. It installs at 12” x 48”. It was inspired by the expansive views of Silver Peak, Killarney Provincial Park.

The second piece, “Towering Rock” is a substantial piece installing at 36” x 90”, commissioned by collectors who wanted something with drama and rugged boulders. We have decided to situate a tree on the left panel, which will be completed by mid-April. In the mean time, the piece is being displayed in our gallery.

Sunny Weekend of February 21st · Feb 21, 10:06 pm

Maybe it was the sunshine, but I was highly motivated to complete these two paintings this weekend. The first painting is the same one as shown in the previous blog as a work in progress … well, now it is finally completed. As well, I completed another commission – a much smaller scale comparatively at 12 × 48 … but is still a perfect size.

Through all this painting, I still managed to get down to the 11th Concession to follow the shoreline of the Bay at Cawaja Beach. The Bay is finally starting to get a thin layer of ice throughout. This will make a beautiful painting when I get to it. Since I haven’t attempted ice floats before, it will require some special thought.
