Jill Price, a new artist to Simcoe County, will be exhibiting a new series of photo based works that explore the interior landscapes of her existence while playfully examining the effects of suburban culture on the female form. Titled Process-ed, the show returns to the artists figurative roots, and inventories the numerous electrical inventions of convenience that occupy Price’s kitchen cupboards and secretly undermine her physical ability to complete simple tasks. Whimsically layering nostalgic photos of romantic “housewives” beneath images of shiny appliances, Jill notes how we have become slaves to the machines as we endlessly work to assemble, organize, clean, repair and replace them. Named after motherly television personalities from Price’s childhood, some of the works are plugged in like appliances themselves, illuminating how the works have been applied with paint, text and drawing in a need for Price to reconnect with her own body and the importance of mark making within her practice during our digital age.

On Sunday, join Jill for an in-depth discussion about her body of work and the importance of materiality within an artist’s practice, taking the last half hour to play with unorthodox art materials and the themes or issues one could explore through them.
