Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition · Jul 6, 11:39 pm
Thank you to everyone for coming to the Gallery for a preview of the works to be exhibited at this weekend’s show at Toronto Nathan Phillips Square.
I sold another few pieces, and will be showcasing them at the Exhibition.
Hope everyone beats the heat and comes to the square. Yep, we will be setting up in 40 degree weather, along with a thunderstorm … ah the life as an artist, blissful. On a good note, I won’t be alone. I will be alongside 400 other artists all weathering it out to market their work.

Tornado Update · Jun 26, 03:09 am
Well, Environment Canada has now confirmed that not one, but two tornadoes ripped through Midland on June 24. The first was an F2 tornado (on the Fujita scale) with peak winds of between 180 and 240 km-h. The twister travelled for 25 kilometres, with a maximum width of damage around 300 metres. Numerous mobile homes were severely damaged or destroyed in a trailer park at the south end of town. The second tornado was an F1 tornado spawned from the same thunderstorm and this travelled for approximately 12 kilometres and had peak winds between 120 and 170 km-h. Damage from the second twister was intermittent, with a barn, silo and a garage being the most notable.
Carol and I took some time today to follow the paths of both tornados and ended the day visiting with Residents of Smith’s Trailer Park and Campground where damage from the first tornado was truly unbelievable (see pics). Some trailers were literally torn to bits while other were flipped over and still others were picked up and hurled hundreds of feet away … while others, quite unexplainably, were completely untouched. It was quite eerie, almost as if a very large bomb had gone off.
We had the opportunity to talk with several long time park residents and to hear first hand what it was like for them to have weathered out an F2 tornado – and from what I heard I’d have to say that it’s definately not recommended for the faint of heart! Other residents only learned of the tornado the same way we did – on the news – and then made the drive up to Midland only to find their summer getaway and home-away-from-home literally torn apart and strewn throughout the campground. What a shock and quite saddening for families who had raised their children and then grand children summering at this park. Devastating.
And quite honestly … after seeing the carnage first hand, and although several people were injured, it’s quite hard to believe that no one was killed.
Our hearts truely go out to everyone affected by this unfortunate event.

TORNADO HITS MIDLAND ONTARIO - June 23, 2010 · Jun 24, 04:39 am
Stu and Carol, their Gallery and cat, Ollie were left untouched by Midland’s first tornado landing.
We are so thankful for our safety and hydro. We were actually out of town and didn’t return to Midland until 10pm tonight. Not until we arrived on the outer boundaries of Midland, did we notice something was wrong … a swarth of emergency vehicles, road blocks … everything was dark … then we noticed all the new cast vehicles so turned on the radio to hear that a tornado landed in town … I was so happy to see our house was fine and started contacting family and friends to make sure others were okay too … amazing how quickly news travels on the internet …
Here is a link to a good article on National Post See website for details
And only earlier this same day, did we also experience Midland’s first large earthquake that rocked the land from montreal to here. What a crazy day!
I am so grateful we are okay. I will post some photos tomorrow.

Demolition in Midland Ontario - Roxy Theatre becomes Midland Cultural Centre · Jun 11, 04:16 pm
Well let the Demolition begin!!!!
I still get chills thinking that my favourite Fred Lenz Mural will be demolished, but alas, it’s the sign of development I suppose. I would have to agree with comments made in The Midland Mirror just a couple days ago, where a woman made mention that it seemed to be a contradiction not to save such a beautiful piece of art for an Art Centre.
But I also understand, it would be very expensive and more than a bit challenging to keep such a large existing wall while constructing a new building, then to incorporate the structure into the building … well … tough.
So the show must go on and it will be a tremendous addition to the town of Midland, so I am looking forward to the change.
It’s all good as EVERYONE from restaurants to Galleries, to artists, to downtown, to townspeople to tourists .. we will all benefit from this great building! And imagine, it is only one block down the street from our location!

Painting of La Cloche Mountains, Willisville and West Wind Tree - PAINTING OF THE WEEK · Jun 11, 04:10 pm
This was a very interesting painting. It started off a small solo 9” x 12” painting. The client knew I tend to enjoy creating multiple panel paintings, so she asked if I could add onto this first original piece with maybe one or two more panels. Being very familiar with this area of the La Cloche Mountains, I knew immediately that I could easily compose at least a three panel (triptych) for her.
This final triptych painting is what developed from this first painting.
